François-Henri Pinault was born in Rennes in 1962 and is the son of François Pinault, founder of the holding that became Kering. He joined the family group in 1987, took over as chief executive in 2005 and has since transformed it from a conglomerate spanning retail and timber into a focused luxury platform.

Under his leadership Kering has built leading positions through houses including Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga, completed the strategic acquisition of a major stake in Valentino and built a high-end eyewear and beauty platform. He has also led one of the industry's most public commitments on sustainability, including the launch of the Fashion Pact.

Pinault is also active in the contemporary art world through the Pinault Collection and its institutions in Venice and Paris.
