Robin Zeng was born in Fujian, China, in 1968, trained as an engineer and built his early career in consumer-electronics batteries before founding Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) in 2011 to focus on lithium-ion cells for electric vehicles and stationary storage.
Under his leadership CATL has become the largest manufacturer of EV batteries in the world by volume, with major customers across every leading global automaker and a leadership position in next-generation chemistries including lithium-iron-phosphate and sodium-ion cells. The company has expanded its manufacturing footprint into Europe and is widely regarded as one of the most consequential Chinese industrial companies on the global stage.
Zeng is one of the most influential figures in the global energy-transition supply chain and a defining voice on the long-term economics of battery storage.
