Jane Fraser was born in St Andrews, Scotland, in 1967, trained at Cambridge and Harvard Business School and built her career at Goldman Sachs, McKinsey and then Citigroup, where she ran the bank's Latin America and consumer divisions before being named global chief executive in 2021 — the first woman ever to lead a major U.S. money-center bank.
Her tenure has been defined by the most far-reaching restructuring Citigroup has undertaken in decades: divestiture of consumer banking franchises across more than a dozen markets, a sharper focus on global corporate clients, wealth and U.S. consumer banking, and a sustained investment program in technology and risk-and-controls infrastructure to address long-standing regulatory commitments.
