David Zaslav was born in Brooklyn in 1960, trained as a lawyer and built his career at NBC and Discovery Communications, which he led as chief executive from 2007. He engineered the 2022 combination of Discovery with WarnerMedia, creating Warner Bros. Discovery, and has led the merged company through a deep cost restructuring, a major debt-reduction programme and the relaunch of the company's flagship streaming product as Max.

His tenure has been one of the most scrutinized in contemporary media, balancing the pressures of an indebted post-merger balance sheet against the requirements of running a film studio, a global cable portfolio, news operations and sports rights.
